What is meant by the Fire Element?
The fire (element) is the burgeoning of (lobha) greed, (dosa) hatred, (mana)
conceit, (issa) envy and (macchariya) jealousy, leaving neither sympathy nor compassion
for one another. That fire element cause drying up pf virtuous elements not
only in the present but also in the coming existences in (samsara) the round of rebirths.
Therefore people should endeavor this very life to the best of their ability to extinguish
the fire element and seek to reside steeped in the cool elements of lovingkindness,
compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity, which are also the four
sublime stages of living.

अग्नि(आग) तत्व का क्या अर्थ है? अग्नि - लोभ, द्वेष, मान, ईर्ष्या और कंजूसी का उत्कर्ष है, जो एक दूसरे के प्रति न तो सहानुभूति रखते हैं और न ही करुणा। अग्नि तत्व (लोभ, द्वेष, मान, ईर्ष्या और कंजूसी) न केवल वर्तमान में बल्कि पुनर्जन्म के चक्र में आने वाले जीवन में भी पुण्य तत्वों को सुखा देता है। इसलिए लोगों को इस जीवन में अग्नि तत्व (लोभ, द्वेष, मान, ईर्ष्या और कंजूसी) को बुझाने के लिए अपनी पूरी क्षमता से प्रयास करना चाहिए और मैत्री, करुणा, सहानुभूतिपूर्ण आनंद (मुदिता) और समता (उपेक्खा) के शीतल तत्वों में डूबे रहने का प्रयास करना चाहिए, जो जीवन के चार उत्कृष्ट चरण (ब्रह्यविहार) भी हैं।
